A few terms to broaden your canna-vocab.

Biomass refers to the stalks, stems, and leaves of the plant. This leftover plant material doesn’t have as much trichome density as its buds but can be transformed into a number of functional and sustainable products.

These are the chemical compounds found in the Cannabis plant that offers a variety of health benefits. THC and CBD are the most well-known cannabinoids. THC produces euphoric and psychoactive effects on your body (i.e., the "high"), while most health benefits come from CBD.

This is the name for the foliage cover of growing plants. The area shaded by foliage is called the canopy cover.

Fan leaves are the typically bigger and fingered leaves in cannabis plants. They absorb light, perform photosynthesis, and breathe, exchanging CO2 and oxygen with the environment.

A type of seed that is created to only produce a female plants — since it is the only sex that produces flower.

Hash is short for hashish, it is a cannabis resin from the top of the plant, used for recreational and medical consumption. It is usually very strong and can be smoked, chewed, or swallowed.

A hybrid is a cross between two genetically different strains of cannabis to make another powerful combination. Most strains found in dispensaries are hybrids.

This is the name for a plant that is grown specifically for cloning purposes. They are kept in a constant vegetative state and never transitioned over into the flowering stage. Cannabis plants are especially appealing to use as mothers because they are easy to clone and are resilient to the minor stress that accompanies plant cuttings.

Sexual propagation occurs when a female cannabis plant is pollinated by a male, whereas asexual propagation happens when you take a cutting from a “mother plant” and create a new genetically identical plant from it.

Usually abbreviated “SOG,” this is a method of growing cannabis that forces flowering at a young age. The plants will have only been in a vegetative state for about two weeks allowing a much earlier harvest than growing your plants normally.

This is a specific type of leaf that grows alongside the bud on a cannabis plant to offer extra protection to the delicate flowers. They can be used to make all manner of cannabis products, such as canna-oil, cannabutter, cannabis tinctures, cannabis tea, topicals, and more

These are the chemical compounds found in cannabis that produce the distinct flavor and smell of the flower. Most recently, terpenes have entered the medical marijuana arena to aid particular ailments or issues.

Trichomes are crystalized glands that produce resin on a marijuana plant. Often referred to as “sticky little hairs”, they’re specific parts of the plant that carry most cannabinoids.

A specific technique to separate THC trichomes in order to isolate the resin in cannabis. A cleaner method that doesn’t involve other solvents it produces a more refined hashish.
